Sight Words

Parents,

You will begin to notice a sight word paper in the back of your child’s purple take home folder. If you child has been tested, the correct words will be highlighted. Please practice the non-highlighted words at home.

Please leave the paper in the back of your child’s purple take home folder. I will use this paper to test the students throughout the year and I will date it each time they are tested. I usually test students about 8 times throughout the year.

As a reference, the first 100 words should have been known by the end of kindergarten. The second 100 words are first grade words and should know all 200 by the end of first grade. Students should be around 150 by December. That is all kindergarten words and 50 of the first grade words.

Students should be able to say words within 3 seconds and without sounding out the word. If they had to sound out each letter of a word, it does not count.

I should have all students tested by the end of next week (August 18th.)
