Parents,

Friday we took our first Fluency Friday test. Students were given 2 minutes to complete 24 addition sentences. Students then graphed how many they knew in their personal data binders. By graphing their results, students are able to set goals and see their progression throughout the year. When students are able to correctly complete all 24 problems in 2 minutes they will move on to subtraction. In first grade we want the students to be able to do mental math quickly. Developmentally students will start counting with fingers and manipulatives but we want them to be able to quickly add in their heads. We will work on these skills year round. Thank you for practicing with your children at home.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
